About La Nucía

La Nucía, easy living between Benidorm and the hills
La Nucía is an inland town in the hills of the Costa Blanca, about 8 km north of Benidorm and just 3 km from the beaches of Altea. Its centre sits on a promontory at 226 metres, in a fruit valley between the sea and the mountains, with the Puig Campana peak in view. With close to 19,000 residents and almost a third of them from other countries, it is a quiet, well-kept and very international town, near the coast without being right on it.
A modern town with a historic core
La Nucía moves at two speeds. On one side, the historic core of cobbled streets around the Plaza de la Almazara and the 18th-century church of the Inmaculada Concepción, with the chapels of San Rafael (1888) and San Vicente Ferrer (1803) and the Captivador nature spot. On the other, a newer part of parks and well-kept public facilities that has become its calling card.

The Ciutat Esportiva, a sporting landmark
What really sets La Nucía apart is its Ciudad Deportiva Camilo Cano, with some 66 facilities over twelve hectares and the Olympic Stadium at its heart. It hosted the 2019 Spanish Athletics Championship and the 2021 Spanish Road Cycling Championship, and it regularly welcomes training camps and teams. For residents that means pools, courts, trails and a climbing wall close to home, and an outdoor life.
Food, fiestas and local life
Cooking here belongs to the valley and the mountains: cooked rice, the olleta stew, home-made cured meats and, for dessert, loquats, sweet coca flatbread and sweet-potato pastries. The calendar turns around the Fiestas Mayores of mid-August, honouring the Virgen de la Asunción and San Roque, the San Vicente Ferrer pilgrimage to the Captivador after Easter, and San Rafael in November. The weekly market keeps the town's rhythm.

Well connected to the coast and the airport
From La Nucía you reach Benidorm in about ten minutes and the beaches of Altea in a little more. The AP-7 and the N-332 link the town with Alicante and the north of the province, and the Alicante-Elche airport (ALC) is under an hour away by car. The coastal TRAM, with nearby stops in Benidorm and Altea, ties the shoreline to Alicante and Denia.
